Abstract :
It is a case study research report about renewable energy sources and rural development possibilities in Hunza. The report made on base of personal experience as well as number of online resources and data banks to get information. Current issues and rural development plan have been discussed. I have discussed different types of renewable sources in the world and I choose solar, wind and hydro energy as best practices for the region of Hunza according to its geographic location. Biogas and biomass have also been reviewed for this region. There is a great emphasis on hydro power because Hunza has a lot of natural resources in term of water. Waste became a serious problem in Hunza region. Without proper treatment of waste and burn in open air became a thread for living species exist in that area. Biodiversity is completed disturbed; species start to extinct and newborn diseases appeared in the society. Not only this but also great climate change in the region. As we had flood last year, due to this people lost their homes and property. Communities are compelled to utilize contaminated water for household and drinking purposes. Thus, increasing the looming threat of water born diseases in the area. I discussed environmental issues like excessive carbon emission in the air and its effects on community. An online surrey survey has been conducted about the renewable energy usages, rural development possibilities, main bodies responsible for climate change and the importance of international treaties like Kyoto Protocol. I also mention the overview of energy in Pakistan and possible sites and locations of solar & wind turbines in Hunza Valley. The existing energy, deficiency and current ongoing projects of energy has been overviewed. Rural development in term of energy through by possible energy connections to Pakistan lowlands and to china through by khunjerab Pass. This led to main goals of rural developmentstated by UN. Improve access to reliable and affordable energy services, including renewable and alternative sources of energy for sustainable rural development.
