Empowering Women of Hunza in Sports

Hunza, a beautiful part of Gilgit-Baltistan, is seeing a big change. Women here are now participating in winter sports, something that was hard to imagine a few years ago. Events like the Karakoram Winterlude, organized by The SCARF (Sports, Culture, and Recreation Forum), are giving women the chance to show their talent in sports like ice hockey, glacier hikes, and ice climbing.

People are looking up to the women of Hunza.Their bravery and accomplishments in winter sports demonstrate that anything is achievable with perseverance and hard work. They are encouraging young girls to pursue their passions and have big dreams. This goes beyond sports; it’s about securing a future in which men and women collaborate to forge a more cohesive and powerful community. For the women of Hunza, the future appears bright, and the journey has begun.

In the past, many women in Hunza could not take part in sports because of societal challenges and limited opportunities. But now, things are changing. Women are leading teams in ice hockey and climbing glaciers with confidence. They are proving that they can succeed in anything they try. But nowadays women of Hunza are breaking the barriers.
