U.SOfficially Rejoins Paris Agreement
On Climate Change

The Paris Agreement is a phenomenal structure for worldwide activity. We know since we helped plan it and make it a reality. Its motivation is both basic and sweeping: to help us all stay away from calamitous planetary warming and to construct versatility all throughout the planet to the effects from environmental change we as of now see.

Presently, as earth shattering as our joining the Agreement was in 2016 — and however pivotal
as our rejoining seems to be today — what we do in the coming weeks, months, and years is
considerably more signicant.
You have seen and will keep on seeing us meshing environmental change into our most
signicant two-sided and multilateral discussions at all levels. In these discussions, we’re
asking different pioneers: how might we accomplish all the more together?
Environmental change and science discretion can never again be “additional items” in our
international strategy conversations. Tending to the genuine dangers from environmental
change and tuning in to our researchers is at the focal point of our homegrown and
international strategy needs. It is imperative in our conversations of public safety, relocation,
worldwide wellbeing endeavors, and in our nancial discretion and exchange talks.
We are reconnecting the world on all fronts, including at the President’s April 22nd Leaders’
Climate Summit. Also, farther, we are a lot of anticipating working with the United Kingdom and
different countries all throughout the planet to make COP26 a triumph

The United States on Friday ocially rejoined the Paris environment arrangement, the
worldwide accord intended to turn away disastrous a dangerous atmospheric devation.
President Biden has said handling the environment emergency is among his most noteworthy
needs and he marked a leader request committing once again the United States to the
understanding just a short time after he was sworn into oce a month ago.
“We can presently don’t defer or do the absolute minimum to address environmental change,”
Mr. Biden said on Friday. “This is a worldwide, existential emergency. Furthermore, we’ll all
endure the outcomes on the off chance that we fall at.”
It was a sharp disavowal of the Trump organization, which had hauled the country out of the
settlement and appeared to be anxious to undermine guidelines pointed toward securing the
climate.
“The Paris Agreement is a phenomenal structure for worldwide activity,” Secretary of State
Antony J. Blinken said in a proclamation on Friday. “We know since we helped plan it and make
it a reality.”
For certain 189 nations joining the settlement in 2016, it had wide global help and Mr. Biden’s
transition to rejoin the exertion was invited by unfamiliar pioneers.
“Welcome back to the Paris Agreement!” Emmanuel Macron, the leader of France, said in a
Twitter message at that point.
The electrifying thought of the Paris environment accord is that solitary worldwide fortitude and
aggregate activity can forestall the desolates of environmental change: more blazing
temperatures, rising ocean levels, all the more remarkable tempests, or dry spells prompting
food deciencies.
President Biden has declared an arrangement to burn through $2 trillion more than four years to
expand the utilization of clean energies in transportation, power and building areas, while
quickly moving away from coal, oil and gas. He has dene an objective of wiping out nonrenewable energy source discharges from power age by 2035 and has promised to put the
whole United States economy on target to become carbon nonpartisan by midcentury.
Previous President Trump had declared in 2017 that the United States would pull out from the
Paris understanding, however the exit couldn’t be made authority until Nov. 4 a year ago.
The United States was authoritatively out of the arrangement for 107 days.

On Friday, Mr. Blinken said battling environmental change would be by and by at the focal point
of U.S. homegrown and international strategy needs.
“Environmental change and science tact can never again be ‘additional items’ in our
international strategy conversations,” Mr. Blinken said.
However, he added, “as pivotal as our joining the arrangement was in 2016 — and however
groundbreaking as our rejoining seems to be today — what we do in the coming weeks, months,
and years is signicantly more signicant.”
Since the beginning of the modern time, the United States has discharged more ozone harming
substances than some other country. Thus, how the United States utilizes its cash and force
has both an emblematic and genuine bearing on whether the world’s generally 7.6 billion
individuals, and particularly its most unfortunate, will actually want to turn away environment
ascoes.
There are two prompt signs to look for. To start with, how driven will the Biden organization be
in its emanations decreases targets? It is feeling the squeeze from promotion gatherings to
diminish discharges by 50% by 2030, contrasted with 2005 levels.
Furthermore, second, what amount of cash will the United States give to assist helpless nations
with adjusting the cataclysms of an Earth-wide temperature boost and shift their economies
from petroleum products?

The responses to both are normal in the following not many weeks, on schedule for the April 22
virtual environment culmination that President Biden has said he will have.

History of Hunza Valley & Kingdom

Hunza was formerly a princely state bordering China to the north-east and Pamir to its north-west, which continued to survive until 1974, when it was finally dissolved by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The state bordered the Gilgit Agency to the south, the former princely state of Nagar to the east. The state capital was the town of Baltit (also known as Karimabad) and its old settlement is Ganish Village.

Hunza was an independent principality for more than 900 years. The British gained control of Hunza and the neighbouring valley of Nagar between 1889 and 1892 followed by a military engagement of severe intensity. The ruler of Hunza (Prince) Mir Safdar Ali Khan of Hunza fled to Kashghar in China and sought political asylum there, while British apponted Mir Jamal Khan as the new Mir of Hunza under the rule of British Government

Thum

The traditional name for the ruler in Hunza was Thum, which is also a respectful appellation used by people of both Hunza and Nager who belong to the clan of Boorish. The Shin use the term Yeshkun for the Boorish.

First Muslim Thum (Ruler)

The ruling family of Hunza is called Ayeshe (heavenly), from the following circumstance. The two states of Hunza and Nagar were formerly one, ruled by a branch of the Shahreis, the ruling family of Gilgit, whose seat of government was Nager. Tradition relates that Mayroo Khan, apparently the first Muslim Thum of Nagar some 200 years after the introduction of the religion of Islam to Gilgit, married a daughter of Trakhan of Gilgit, who bore him twin sons named Moghlot and Girkis. From the former the present ruling family of Nager is descended. The twins are said to have shown hostility to one another from birth. Their father seeing this and unable to settle the question of succession, divided his state between them, giving to Girkis the north, and to Moghlot the south, bank of the river. ?

? Both Thums are still addressed as Soori, as a title of respect. This appears to be the same [in meaning] as Sri, an commonly prefixed to the names of Hindu princes in India, to denote their honour and prosperity. The Thum’s wives are styled ghenish which is almost identical with the original Sanskrit word for mother, and their sons are called gushpoor

Agreement signed between GB govt and UNDP to save lives from GLOF
Under continued efforts to mitigate the impacts of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed the Letter of Agreements (LoAs) for the year 2021 with the Government of Gilgit Baltistan, under its flagship project called: Scaling up of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF-II) risk reduction in Northern Pakistan in a virtual ceremony today. The Letter of Agreements was signed by Mr. Knut Ostby, Resident Representative, UNDP and Syed Abrar Hussain, Additional Chief Secretary (Planning & Development Department) Gilgit-Baltistan.
These agreements build on the ongoing partnership between the Government of Pakistan and UNDP, to set the stage for stronger cooperation to have a common understanding on the GLOF risks in provinces and the importance of resilience building of communities against climate induced disasters. P&DD GB will act as the lead partner for the project and provide support in coordinating activities with respective line departments in GB. The activities to be carried out under the LoA will achieve significant results in the form of studies undertaken for risk assessments, GIS mapping of hazard locations and completion of forestry surveys. In addition, Provincial Climate Change Adaptation Action Plans will be formulated. Specific set of interventions for each site selected will also be carried out in the form of building small scale infrastructure, promotion of water efficient, risk-informed farming technologies, and documentation of indigenous best practices to demonstrate nature-bases solutions. The LoAs will also focus greatly on community mobilization activities for mass sensitization awareness, disaster risk reduction trainings and outreach through media.
The signatories agreed that the project scale in 16 valleys of GB and gives all partners a great opportunity to expand their development agenda towards a more secure and risk averted Pakistan to climate change impacts.
Glacial melt has resulted in the formation of over 3,044 lakes in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, putting some 7.1 million people at risk from potential GLOFs. Led by Ministry of Climate Change, with the support from UNDP and funding support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the project targets the most vulnerable rural communities in the high-altitude regions of the country. The project will also install scaled-up early warning systems and automated weather stations to mitigate the impact of GLOFs. Amongst the target project beneficiaries, more than half will be women, propelling Pakistan’s efforts to reduce inequalities and ensure gender equality by 2030.

Large herd of Himalayan ibex in Hunza valley

0

A rare sighting of about 50 Himalayan ibex, including females with their young ones, was recently recorded near the Passu glacier in Hunza valley, the World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-P) reported on Wednesday.

The footage was captured in the Khyber village by Nyal Mueenuddin, a wildlife film-maker associated with WWF-P, and Imtiaz Ahmed, a local photographer, who were filming Passu glacier’s ecology and associated habitat.

The team came across ibex tracks down the precipitous mountain ridges. The species can be found at an altitude of about 3,660 to over 5,000 metres and usually comes down to 2,135 metres due to snow and in search of food in the winter season.

“The presence of such a large number of Himalayan ibex in the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region indicates a healthy ecosystem that can support large predators such as snow leopards, lynx and wolves,” said Rab Nawaz, senior director programmes at WWF-P, adding that the organization had been engaged in conservation efforts in the region for a long time.
‘The presence of such a large number of ibex in the Gilgit-Baltistan region indicates a healthy ecosystem’
The ibex population, according to the organisation, faces numerous threats across its range in Pakistan, from habitat loss to illegal hunting, climate change, and lack of awareness about the species.

However, as a result of the community’s efforts in this region, as well as efforts of local guards and GB wildlife department, their population is seen to be increasing.

“When it comes to filming wildlife, one thing which is of paramount importance is the photographer’s patience. He or she must not get discouraged by harsh weather conditions or difficult terrain. My message is that we should do as much as we can to protect the beautiful wildlife in these areas so that our next generation can witness and experience their existence,” said Imtiaz Ahmed.

The WWF-P initiated a research-based project in the Bar valley, Nagar district, Gilgit-Baltistan in 1990 with the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme to protect the Himalayan ibex, its associated wildlife species and their habitat.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed with communities and Gilgit-Baltistan Parks and Wildlife Department, which specified that the locals would protect their natural resources, especially the ibex population.

“As the recent footage indicates, these initiatives yielded positive results. Further interventions continue to be implemented to not only change human attitudes towards wildlife protection but also to reduce human-wildlife conflict,” said Rab Nawaz.

The film, which can be accessed on WWF-Pakistan’s YouTube channel, documents the team’s rare sighting and also highlights the efforts taken behind the lens to film the ibex.
